Featured Walk

The walk from the Bishop on the Bridge in Winchester to the Bridge at Shawford follows the River Itchen through the water meadows and across open fields.

Follow the river to Wolvesey Castle in College Street and go straight on. The College will be on your right.

When you get to the road where the College playing fields end, cross over slightly to your right and continue to follow the stream. This 40 minute first leg of the walk finishes at St Cross Hospital.

To continue the walk, keep St Cross on your right and walk through the avenue of trees towards Shawford. At the road, turn left.

Just before the motorway bridge you can follow the path back to Winchester or continue under the motorway and rejoin the river.

The path following the river across the meadow is bumpy but you can recover at the Bridge.

After your 2 hour walk you can catch a train back to Winchester or walk up to the main road and catch a number 1 bus.
