City Walk
Starting at Winchester City Mill, next to King Alfred's statue, you can walk along the river Itchen to the ruins of the 12th century Wolvesey Castle.
Turning right into College Street, Winchester College is on your left and, just before the quaint little shops, you can see the house in which Jane Austen died.
With the Wykeham Arms to your left, turn right under St Swithuns upon Kingsgate. This is an amazing little church that forms the archway leading to St Swithuns street.
Turning right into the cathedral grounds, you will pass Cheyney Court and Pilgrims School before reaching the fine houses in the Close and the wonderful flying buttresses of the cathedral.
From the front of the cathedral, walk up to the Square and turn right into the High Street. Continue to the left, up the High Street, until you get to the statue of a naked man on a horse. Turn left and go up the steps in front of the law courts. The Great Hall is just to the right of the courts.
After admiring the Round Table and the vastness of the hall, stroll back down the hill and find a pleasant coffee shop to refresh yourself.
